Each student brings\u00a0a different way\u00a0of thinking and learning, and these differences are\u00a0recognised\u00a0and respected across the school.<\/p>\n<p>Lynn van Stee, Head of Student Support,\u00a0explained: \u201cOur central message to students is that we are all part of\u00a0neurodiversity. Each of us is uniquely\u00a0wired and\u00a0understanding that helps students better understand themselves and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Neurodiversity in Primary and Secondary at ISZN<\/h3>\n<p>During the week, students across the school engaged in activities designed to explore and understand neurodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0Secondary\u00a0school classes, students watched a video that used\u00a0biodiversity as an analogy to explain neurodiversity, showing that all brains are different. This formed the basis for a Friday assembly and follow-up discussions in\u00a0students\u2019\u00a0homerooms, where\u00a0the classes\u00a0reflected on how neurodiversity shaped\u00a0their experience in school and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>In Primary, teachers introduced the topic through storybooks featuring neurodivergent characters. Those readings\u00a0opened up\u00a0age-appropriate\u00a0conversations in the classroom.<\/p>\n<h3>Part of everyday learning<\/h3>\n<p>The week\u00a0connected\u00a0to a wider approach already in place at ISZN.<\/p>\n<p>Students engage with ideas such as\u00a0there being\u00a0different types\u00a0of strengths,\u00a0the concept of\u00a0emotional regulation, and understanding how they are \u201cuniquely wired.\u201d These themes are embedded across lessons, including\u00a0those in\u00a0Personal, Social,\u00a0Health\u00a0and Economic (PSHE)\u00a0classes.<\/p>\n<p>In PSHE, students explore personal development\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0including identity, self-awareness, and emotional wellbeing. They also build social skills such as communication, relationships, and respect for others.
