Clubs and Activities

Engaging students beyond academics

York Prep students enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities, from theater productions to community service to hiking in the great outdoors. Clubs provide a dynamic space for students to develop their talents and nurture their passions.

Our emphasis on community service facilitates civic engagement and makes students aware of and sensitive to the needs of humanity.

Our clubs

Model UN

Model UN is an opportunity for students to assume roles as delegates, representing different countries, to debate current global issues. Participating students simulate United Nations meetings, strengthening public speaking, research, and problem-solving skills. Model UN students seek out, developing a greater awareness of international issues and different cultural perspectives.

In the 20242-2025 school year, the Model UN team attended three local conferences and brought home two honorable mentions and one Best Delegate award. The team focuses on public speaking, negotiation, and research skills, and looks to cultivate a deeper understanding of global issues and perspectives.

The Paw

The Paw is York Prep’s official student newspaper showcasing student voices. The Paw staff explore critical issues, share stories that matter, and engage the school community through thoughtful journalism. Staff members include: writers, reporters, artists, photographers, poets, and humorists. Students collaborate, research, think critically, and use problem-solving skills to craft two issues per academic year.

Students have had the opportunity to travel to conferences in Boston and New York City, such as the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Conference at Columbia University, to learn from leaders in the field of journalism and to inform best practices to use when drafting The Paw.

Genesis

Genesis is York Prep’s award-winning, student-led Literary and Art Magazine. The York Prep student body is encouraged to share their voices through original poems, prose, screenplays, short fiction, and visual arts, including, but not limited to, photography, digital art, drawings, and paintings.

Student editors oversee the publication’s submissions, layout, and overall design. All creative submissions go through a peer-editing process, guided by faculty advisors. The Genesis team offers leadership roles for students, help students approach pieces of art with a critical eye, and celebrate the individuality and cultural perspectives of their peers.

Community Service Club

The Community Service Club (CSC) engages students in community-minded citizenship. The club offers students opportunities to do service projects in our school community and beyond. Working closely with the Student Government, the CSC has held charitable events such as: Student v. Faculty basketball game, Thanksgiving food drive, and prom dress & clothing drives.

York Prep is situated in a vibrant community on the Upper West Side that engages with neighborhood organizations. The CSC has partnered with local restaurants like the Migrant Kitchen to prepare food and floral arrangements for nearby women’s shelter on Mother’s Day.
