York Prep Scholars Program
The Scholars Program at York Prep is designed for students who are eager to take ownership of their learning and expand their intellectual curiosity. The program offers a space where students can explore topics deeply and creatively. Scholars’ classes encourage students to ask thoughtful questions, think critically, and develop skills that are essential for research and lifelong learning.
Students can choose from a variety of class topics. Previous topics include Cartography and World Building, Bad Blood: Taylor Swift Feminism, American Cults, and The Science of Living Well. Scholars are supported to examine complex ideas, make interdisciplinary connections, and apply their learning through dynamic classroom discussions and assignments. These classes, which meet once a week for 10 sessions, enrich and extend the learning students are doing in their core subjects.
At the heart of the Scholars Program is a commitment to fostering independence and nurturing curiosity. Senior Scholars have the opportunity to work closely with a faculty advisor to design and complete a capstone project on a topic of their choosing. Their senior year culminates with a Research Symposium where students present and defend their research projects. This experience builds confidence in their ability to conduct research, analyze information, and express innovative ideas.
