Sustainability and
Environmental Awareness
Committed to the Planet
At Liceo Sorolla International School, we believe that education is the most powerful tool for transforming the world. Our commitment to sustainability comes from a clear conviction: climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time and can only be addressed through awareness, education and positive habit-building from an early age.
We work to develop responsible, compassionate and environmentally conscious leaders by integrating sustainability into both daily school life and our educational project. Our sustainability strategy is built around three main areas: environmental education, green leaders and social responsibility in education.
Environmental Education
We aim to encourage all our students to take responsibility for protecting the planet.
For more than 14 years, we have been part of the Eco-Schools network, actively participating in local environmental projects through the Environmental Classroom of Pozuelo de Alarcón.
We also collaborate with leading environmental education organisations and take part in Eco-Audits that help us continuously improve our sustainable processes and initiatives.
Within our environmental learning space, students have access to a greenhouse area and a school garden, where they grow a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, aromatic plants and fruit, while learning directly about ecosystems, biodiversity and sustainability.
Green Leaders
Our students actively participate as Green Leaders, promoting initiatives that promote recycling and reducing plastic use, environmental awareness and intellectual activism, renewable energy and plant-based nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
Environmental leadership is part of our school culture, encouraging active participation and responsible decision-making.
These experiences help students develop a practical understanding of biodiversity, ecosystems and sustainable living.
Social Responsibility in Education
Sustainability also means social commitment and global awareness. We encourage students to understand their role as global citizens and to develop a compassionate and socially responsible mindset.
We are members of the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools programme, which promotes awareness projects focused on protecting children’s rights. We are also part of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, connecting more than 11,500 schools across 182 countries to promote international understanding, peace and intercultural dialogue, sustainable development and quality education.
Through these initiatives, we work on both Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
Educating Students Committed to the Future
At Liceo Sorolla International School, sustainability is not a one-off initiative, but a way of understanding education and life.
Every project, activity and educational experience is designed to help students become conscious, responsible individuals prepared to lead positive change towards a more sustainable future.
