Physical Activity in Students’ Development
Sport is a fundamental pillar of the educational project at Liceo Sorolla International School. We firmly believe that sport improves people’s quality of life and benefits both body and mind.
Neuroscience shows that physical activity helps consolidate the neural connections created throughout the day. Playing sport helps us learn.
Sport at Liceo Sorolla
Physical activity is part of everyday life at the school, with a sports programme that begins in the earliest educational stages and accompanies students throughout their academic journey.
The aim of this subject is to help our students stay active and discover the sports they enjoy most. We use sport as a way to teach values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play, honesty, perseverance and respect.
All our students practise sport an average of four days a week, combining Physical Education, swimming and dance within the school timetable.
In addition, we regularly organise adapted sports events in collaboration with the Spanish Paralympic Committee, reinforcing values such as inclusion, respect and personal growth.
More Sport Beyond the School Day
We also offer a wide range of extracurricular sports activities, leisure trips and camps during lunchtime and after school hours. One of our distinctive features is that all sports coaches are former students of the school, ensuring continuity in the school’s sporting culture and values.
Liceo Sorolla Sports Values Gala
Every year, we host a gala at our school that brings together elite athletes, families and teachers to share with our students the importance of being principled individuals with strong values.
The Liceo Sorolla Sports Values Gala recognises values both in sport and in life.
Over eight consecutive editions, invited athletes have inspired our students and families through their speeches. Award-winning athletes have included:
Raúl González Blanco, former Real Madrid CF player.
Jorge Garbajosa, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation.
Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético de Madrid.
Paralympic medallists Teresa Perales, Xavi Torres and Enhamed Enhamed.
This commitment to sport has been recognised by the Pozuelo de Alarcón City Council with the Sportsmanship Award in Pozuelo de Alarcón.
